Unhandled Error in Silverlight 2 Application Code: 2104

Jun 25, 2009 at 11:36 PM

There doesn't seems to be direct steps to get the control working . As suggested i created virtual directory and placed the files from

When i run the SamplePlayer.html i get the following error :

Unhandled Error in Silverlight 2 Application

Code: 2104

Category: InitializeError

Message: 2104 An error has occurred.

Some suggestion was to register following MIME types:

.xaml    application/xaml+xml

.xap    application/x-silverlight-app

This didn't worked either.

Any other possibility ?

What web browser are you using?  If IE, did you install and register the ActiveX control to the machine you are using to access SamplePlayer.html?  If firefox did you put the NPAPI dll into the Firefox plugins directory?  Do other Silverlight applications run correctly on the machine you are using to to access SamplePlayer.html?  Are you accessing SamplePlayer.html over http, not locally on the filesystem?  What is your browser, OS, and Silverlight version.

Hi  mpoindexter,

Thanks for reply.

Here are details :

  • Browser IE 8  with "MulticastProxyActiveX.dll" registered using regsvr32 in the local machine running the browser
  • We have application with Silverlight Photo Album which is working without any  issues
  • SamplePlayer.html is accessed via http (Vitual Directory is created as suggested )
  • OS of host machine which is also used as client for testing the control (Windows Server 2003)
  • Silver Light Version (2.0.40115.0)

Scenario :

Page with control looks like this  :

We have Media streaming service installed in the same server with sample playlist . I provide the playlist name to the player and click play . below is final output screen

I just loaded the starlight code onto a Windows 2k3 box and tested with the following results:

Initially, the Silverlight application did not load.  I then added MIME types for .xap, .xaml, and .xbap, and restarted IIS.  The Silverlight application then loaded.

I do note that you are trying to load an ASX in the URL box.  Although the underlying code in the libraries does support reading ASX files, the sample player application does not.  Try entering a URL to an NSC file in the URL box, and see if the multicast stream plays.  The sample player code is actually creating an ASX on the fly to pass to the underlying libraries, so what ends up happening if you put a ASX in the URL box is that the libraries are handed an ASX that looks like:

<ASX><ENTRY><REF href="http://host/PublishingPoint1.asx"/></ENTRY></ASX>

When the library goes to parse the ASX, it sees the entry is not a NSC url, and hands it to the built in Silverlight code to play (since it's not a multicast stream).  The built in code tries to read the ASX, doesn't see any URLs it can handle, and then reports an error.
